Minimalia 1.0.0

Released

First public release of Minimalia. Lightweight, privacy-first browsing — now available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Features

Browsing

  • Tabbed browsing — multiple tabs with close, reopen, and switch shortcuts
  • Pin tabs to keep them across sessions; pinned tabs are protected from accidental close
  • Duplicate tabs (Ctrl+Shift+D) to fork the current page in a new tab
  • Session restore — optionally reopen the previous window on next launch, including pinned tabs
  • Private browsing — isolated profile, no history or cookies persisted
  • Multiple search engines — Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing, or custom URL
  • Three experience modes — Minimalia (custom homepage), Cleanups (declutter), or Default

Privacy & Ad Blocking

  • Ad blocker using Brave's adblock engine with EasyList filters
  • Promotion blocking for Bing and DuckDuckGo search results
  • AI feature removal — strips AI overviews, Copilot, and AI chat from Google/Bing/DuckDuckGo
  • HTTPS-only mode — silently upgrades http:// requests to https:// site-wide
  • Site permissions — explicit prompts for camera, microphone, location, notifications, and other sensitive APIs
  • WebRTC IP-leak protection — prevents real IP exposure through WebRTC
  • Cookie control — choose to persist or clear on exit
  • Search history toggle — enable or disable completely

Navigation & Tools

  • Find in page (Ctrl+F) with next/previous/close controls
  • Zoom controls (Ctrl+=/Ctrl+-/Ctrl+0) per-tab
  • Developer tools (F12) with right-click Inspect option
  • Print to PDF (Ctrl+P) with save location picker
  • Ctrl+click to open links in new tabs
  • Favicons on tabs, lock icon for private tabs

Bookmarks & History

  • Bookmarks panel (Ctrl+B) with per-entry delete and bulk clear
  • Right-click Bookmark/Unbookmark toggle
  • Search history panel (Ctrl+H) with per-entry delete and bulk clear

Download Manager

  • Progress dialog showing percentage and size for all downloads
  • Save Image As with directory picker and progress
  • PDF save with status bar feedback

Settings & Profile

  • Unified settings dialog — change search engine, experience, and all toggles in one place
  • First-run setup — single dialog instead of multiple prompts
  • Reset Profile — clears all browsing data, bookmarks, history, and settings

Updates

  • Built-in update notifier — checks for new releases on launch and shows a non-intrusive dialog with a one-click download link
  • Snooze a release for a day, or dismiss it permanently — your choice is remembered per version

Platform

  • Cross-platform data paths — proper locations on Windows, macOS, Linux
  • Windows installer via Inno Setup
  • GitHub Actions workflows for Linux AppImage and macOS DMG builds, published directly to GitHub Releases

Limitations

  • Google sign-in is blocked — Google flags QtWebEngine-based browsers as "not secure" and blocks sign-in to Google services. This is a Google-side policy and affects all similar embedded-browser projects.
  • Bing is experimental — the Microsoft Bing search engine option may not work reliably in all cases and can behave unexpectedly.
